- Dr. Y.G. Prasad did his B.Sc (Agriculture) in 1981 at Bapatla Agricultural College; did post-graduation and doctoral from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa Institute) at New Delhi in Entomology during 1986-92.
- He served as Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) at Hyderabad since 2015 coordinating 71 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
- Dr. Prasad is an entomologist and started his career as a research scientist; worked extensively on farmer participatory evaluation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices and developed eco-friendly bio-pesticides while at the Directorate of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad
- Led multi-institutional consortium projects funded by the World Bank – National Agricultural Technology Project on Pest forewarning and another World Bank-funded National Agricultural Innovation Project on Development of decision support systems for insect pest management (google CROP PEST DSS).
- As a convener, coordinated the country-wide efforts on preparation of district-level agricultural contingency plans for 580 districts to meet aberrant monsoon weather situations while at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad. He coordinated the Technology Demonstration component of the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project operated through 121 KVKs across the country.
- He is a recipient of the Netherlands government NUFFIC International scholarship
- Awarded Dr. Bap Reddy Memorial Award 2012 for IPM by the Plant Protection Association of India. A valuable partner in achieving the Golden Globe Award for the CROPSAP project by the Ministry of Information Technology, GoI.
- He is a member National Advisory Committee on ‘Climate Smart Agriculture’ study by TIFAC, DST, and Chairman of PRSG on Annapurna Krishi Prasar Seva (AKPS) – an interactive ICT interface for scientists and farmers piloted by the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Min of IT, GoI.
- Presented papers in International Conferences in the Netherlands, UK, France, Brazil, and Indonesia. He is a member of many professional societies and has to his credit 110 national and international publications
