- Beneficial effect of VAM and PSB on cotton – Seed cotton yield was improved under water stress condition by enhancing the growth and physiological attributes in combined inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) and phosphorus solubilising bacteria (PSB) along with 100 % of recommended dose of N, P and K.
- Development of new nanofertilizer for cotton – Nanoencapsulated zinc fertilizer with or without zein polymer coating was developed as a novel slow or controlled release fertilizer and their positive effects on cotton growth was recorded under foliar application.
- Identification of best commercially available nanofertilizers for maximization of yield in cotton – Foliar application of multi nutrient (macro and micro) nanofertilizers Nualgi @ 2 ml/l and Nanomol @ 0.75 g/l at vegetative (30 DAS) and boll formation stage (90 DAS) increased the seed cotton yield by 14-16%
- Zinc oxide nanoparticle – An alternate source of zinc fertilizer for cotton – For foliar spraying in cotton crop, 50nm particle size was identified as the best zinc oxide nano particle. Foliar application of 100 ppm of 50 nm zinc oxide significantly increased the seed cotton yield by 22 % over control and by 7% over the generally recommended 100 ppm Zinc sulphate spray.
- Identification of suitable nanoparticle size and dosage for cotton foliar nutrition – Identified suitable copper oxide nanoparticle size for cotton foliar nutrition and foliar application of 40 nm copper oxide @ 60 ppm increased the seed cotton yield by 14.5 % over control and 7.1 % over 60 ppm of generally recommended copper sulphate.
- Magnesium oxide nanoparticle: An ideal substitution for magnesium sulphate fertilizers – Foliar application of 50 nm size magnesium oxide nanoparticle twice @ 60 ppm was identified as a substitute for magnesium sulphate fertilizer application with an yield advantage of 9 per cent. The overall yield advantage was 22% over control.
- Identification of Magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticle for cotton foliar fertilization– Foliar application of Magnetite (Fe3O4) form Iron nanoparticles (50 nm size) @ 4 g/l at vegetative (30 DAS) and boll formation stage (90 DAS) was identified as an alternative option to the conventional Iron Sulphate fertilizer application.
- Enhancement of nanofertilizer efficacy in cotton through surfactant addition – Improved the solute penetration and uptake of foliar applied nano particles through 1% surfactant addition. Application of Nualgi nanofertilizer @ 2ml/l + 1% surfactant positively enhanced the leaf nitrate reductase activity and reducing sugar content and improved the boll weight and seed cotton yield.
- Established the combination of metal oxide nanoparticles for foliar spray of cotton – Studied the compatibility of different metal oxide nanoparticles for spraying as single foliar spray and customized the spray combination of 100 ppm of 50 nm ZnO+ 100 ppm of 50 nm MgO+ 60 ppm of 40 nm CuO. This customized spray gave 40% increased seed cotton yield over absolute control.
- Effectiveness of metal oxide nanoparticles (inorganic) with seaweed liquid (organic) fertilizer for foliar spray – Combination of metal oxide nanoparticles and Seaweed liquid fertilizer (@1%) was not having any yield advantage. However, spraying of metal oxide nanoparticles alone or Seaweed liquid fertilizer (@1%) alone improved the seed cotton yield over control. This established the tank mixing incompatability of metal oxide nanoparticles and Seaweed liquid fertilizer in respect of foliar spray.
- Successful adoption of integrated nutrient management practice for cotton – maize cropping system – After two years of continuous cotton – maize cropping system under irrigated condition, 26.5 and 14.1 per cent of increased seed cotton and maize grain yield respectively were recorded in integrated sources of nutrients ie., NPK (RDF) + Secondary nutrients (MgSO4) + Micro nutrients (ZnSO4 + Borax) + FYM (5 t/ha) once in two years over control.
