DigiPlus Interactive Corporation has announced an exclusive partnership with Bayad, one of the country’s largest payment service providers, to expand over-the-counter (OTC) payment options for users across the Philippines. The deal, confirmed this week, aims to make cash transactions more accessible for customers who prefer physical payment channels over digital wallets.

Strengthening Physical Payment Channels

The DigiPlus Partners with Bayad initiative will allow users of BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone to deposit funds through more than 800 Bayad Center branches and partner outlets located in malls, supermarkets, and convenience stores nationwide.

Bayad, formerly known as Bayad Center, is a subsidiary of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and is recognized for its wide network of physical payment facilities.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to financial inclusion by providing customers multiple avenues to access our services,” said Andy Tsui, President of DigiPlus Interactive, in a company statement.

Bridging Regulatory Changes and Consumer Behavior

The partnership follows a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) directive requiring e-wallet providers to remove links to gambling platforms. This decision significantly reduced the number of digital cash-in options available to gaming customers.

By integrating with Bayad’s regulated OTC infrastructure, DigiPlus is positioning itself to comply with financial regulations while maintaining service accessibility.

Financial analyst Dr. Marianne Cruz from the University of the Philippines said the move reflects an industry trend toward “hybrid payment ecosystems” that blend physical and digital channels. “Cash remains a dominant mode of payment for many Filipinos, especially outside urban centers,” Cruz noted. “This partnership taps into that behavioral reality while maintaining regulatory compliance.”

Exclusive Access and Market Strategy

Under the agreement, Bayad will exclusively support DigiPlus for OTC cash-in transactions. This gives DigiPlus a strategic edge by controlling a high-traffic payment channel.

“Bayad is committed to ensuring secure, fast, and accessible payment options,” said Lawrence Ferrer, Bayad President and CEO. “Our collaboration with DigiPlus reflects the growing demand for regulated, convenient OTC transactions.”

Looking Ahead: Cash-Out and App Integration

The current rollout focuses on cash-in services. However, both companies have announced plans to expand the integration to cash-out transactions and Bayad’s mobile app in later phases.

This would allow players not only to deposit but also to withdraw winnings at physical outlets, bridging a critical gap in the payment experience. Neither company provided a timeline for the expansion.

Wider Economic and Social Impact

Industry observers say the partnership could help legitimize payment flows in the online gaming sector, which has faced increasing scrutiny. By using an established financial intermediary, DigiPlus can strengthen transaction monitoring and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance.

Economist Dr. Ricardo Mendoza of the Ateneo de Manila University said the partnership reflects broader trends in Philippine fintech. “While digital wallets are growing, physical payment centers remain critical, especially for segments with limited access to digital infrastructure,” he explained.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has not issued any public objections to the initiative. BSP has also not indicated additional regulatory action specific to OTC gaming transactions.

Future Considerations

The DigiPlus Partners with Bayad program is expected to influence how other gaming operators adapt to tighter financial regulations. With OTC payments offering both accessibility and compliance, more firms may follow this model in the coming months.

Analysts also note that the success of cash-out integration will be crucial to determining the long-term impact of the partnership on both financial inclusion and the gaming industry.
