  • TECHNOLOGY: A new protocol “Cotton seed coating with electrospun fibres for controlled release of pesticides” was developed during the NAIP sponsored international training at Cornell University, USA and the technique has been registered at the Cornell Center for Technology Enterprise & Commercialization via an Invention disclosure (CCTEC reference D-5634 dated 28.11.2011)
  • TECHNOLOGY: Dry dust application of nanosilica was formulated to control the pulse beetle Callosobruchus maculatus under low (32%), mid (52%) and high (75%) ambient humidity levels. With a significantly reduced dose of nanosilica at 250 ppm, the drawbacks of conventional inert dust application viz., damage to machinery because of the abrasive properties; reduction of treatment efficacy at high humidity levels; modification the physical properties of the grain and reduction in grain flowability could be negated considerably.
  • GENETIC STOCK: Identified resistance sources against the thrips, Scirtothrips dorsalis in chilli viz., IC572481, EC596952, EC391082, EC378688, EC599959, IC275993, IC570388 and IC572504. Chilli accessions IC342390, IC572492, IC337281 and IC344366 were identified as resistant to the broad mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus. The accessions IC570343, IC572470 and EC596952 were found to be resistant to both the pests. Total phenol content in leaf was found to be positively correlated with the resistant traits against the thrips and mites.
  • PLANT QUARANTINE: A total of 2,36,092 germplasm accessions (2010-2016) were processed for quarantine clearance. Intercepted 457 insect pests in the import and export samples of seed material. Post-entry quarantine inspection was conducted on 19,337 import germplasm accessions during 2010-2016
  • CONCEPT: Developed a concept for assessing the genetic and geographic patterns in distribution of resistance in crop germplasm to biotic stresses through Geographical Information System. The output viz., diversity analysis and country level GIS maps will facilitate the breeders to undertake a targeted exploration in identifying superior sources of resistance against biotic stresses. Prospective maps were developed for chilli thrips and mites, brinjal shoot and fruit borer.
  • Species Distribution Modelling: A model was developed by using the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) approach to expedite the potential distribution of chilli germplasm in India that are resistant to thrips. The model generated district level map for the probable distribution of chilli germplasm that are resistant to thrips in India. The model also delineated the bioclimatic variables associated with distribution of resistant accessions. Similar models were developed for identifying climate suitable region for the cultivation banana cv. Poovan and Red banana.
