Project Management Project Management
- Handled 22 research projects in the capacity of Principal Investigator and Co – Principal Investigator on spices (Small and Large cardamom, Turmeric, Black pepper, Rosemary, Sage, Ginger), Plantation (Coconut, Areca nut, Cocoa), Horticultural (Muskmelon, Cluster bean), Cereal (Rice) and Fibre (Cotton) crops.
Strategic influence
- As a conventional breeder successfully worked more than 20 crops and developed expertise in water stress management. Water stress management in Muskmelon (Cucumis melo L) is most popular promising technology in the farmers.
- Worked in different Agro ecological zones of India like Lower Pulney and Kodai hills of Tamil Nadu, North – West Dzongu Himalayan ranges of Sikkim, Hills of Munnar region of Idukki, Coastal zone of
- Kasaragod, Hills of Puttur and Vidarbha area of Maharashtra.
- Strategies in relation to climate change were formulated and released 3 varieties of small cardamom [ICRI – 4, ICRI – 5 and ICRI – 6] and each one of Black pepper (Pournimi) and Turmeric ( Lakdong -1) that suited to low rainfall area (< 900mm).
- Identified two large cardamom high yielding genotypes (SBLC – 5 and SBLC – 9) suitable for North – West Dzongu Himalayan ranges of Sikkim

Leadership
- Head & Scientist-In-Charge, ICAR-Central Plantation Crop Research Institute (CPCRI), Research Centre Kidu, Nettana.
- Curator of the International Coconut Gene Bank for South Asia (ICG – SA), Kidu and Co-Organizer of 14th Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) steering committee meeting and field visit to ICG – SA where 13 member countries were participated.
- Co-Organizer of expert consultancy meets on early arrowing problems of Sugarcane varieties under Nira canal.
- Co-Chairman of National Task force for the assessment of pink boll worm attack and illegal cultivation of herbicide tolerant Cotton in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Co-Chairman of National Task force for the assessment of hailstorm affected area and farming situation due to delayed monsoon in Maharashtra.
Outreach and Communication
- Farmers adapted promising technology on the water stress management in muskmelon where farmer can halt 7 days drip irrigation at vegetative phase and utilized saved water for another 0.18 hectare land.
Mentoring and career advice
- Guided two M. Sc (Biotechnology) students
- Conducted two training program for the farmers on Good Agricultural Practices on Cocoa and Spices.
Line management
- As a Scientist-In-charge for 6 years where managed 122 hectare land with 60 farm supporting and 4 administrative staff. Build up partnership with International Coconut Genetic Resources Network (COGENT) and four International Coconut Gene Bank (ICG) like ICG – SEA (South East Asia), ICG – SP (South Pacific), ICG-AIO (Africa and India Ocean) and ICG – LAC (Latin America and Caribbean countries) and exchanged 91 designated the coconut germplasm maintained in International Coconut Gene Bank for South Asia, Kidu Nettana.
Grant or Funding received
- Under External Mega Project on Seed production in Agricultural crop and Fisheries grant of Rs.92 Lacs were received aimed to produce quality Coconut, Areca nut and Cocoa seed nuts and seedlings at RC, Kidu.
Budgetary responsibility
- Monitored and Maintained 10500 coconut palm, 6500 areca nut and 550 cocoa plants in ICG-SA, Kidu as mother plants for the production quality planting material, seed nuts, seedlings and grafts under the accreditation by the National Horticultural Board. More than 15 lacs per year revenues was generated as revolving fund from the production of clonal planting material, seed nuts and seedlings from Coconut, Areca nut and Cocoa.
